Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa

My fianc is 10 weeks pregnant, and we have our first obstetric appointment this Monday April 19th. She gave her place of appointment more than 30 days notice that she would be coming in late that morning for this appointment. She also has scheduled the appointment to be 30 minutes before her shift would start to shorten the amount of time she would miss from work. Today she was informed that she could not attend this appointment because they were just to busy to let her come in late. In the end it was worked out that the time was covered, however they said that in the future that she most make a shift trade in order to attend any appointment or she can not go. Can a company legally deny a person prenatal care, especially when they give ample notice of the time needed off?

I do not see that they're denying your fiance anything. She has a choice to make here, to work or to not work. Iowa is a right to work state, which means that a person can be fired for any reason, good reason or no reason at all.
