My husband was "written up" for an incident that happened on a day he did not work. He refused to sign the document and was placed on unpaid leave. Is this legal?

Iowa is a right to work state. Unless you have a contract of employment or are covered by a collective bargaining agreement you can be terminated for any reason, good reason, or no reason at all.
