Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa
Interview question
I have recenctly been offered a postion in management. Unfortunatly I must interview for the position against another employee who was hired 6 months ago to my 6 years. I'm more than qualified and always fill in while my superviser is out. I believe the owner is trying to get the new employee the position because they just happen to be good friends. The company owner put together a questionaire and 1 of the questions asks ''If the other employee was hired would I quit.'' I dont feel this question is fair and doesnt accomplish anything other than to satisfy his curuiosity. My superviser wants me to have his position, and thought that it would only anger the owner if I answered YES. Is this a fair question and what can I do to beat this double edged sword.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: Interview question
If you can't answer honestly, then skip, understanding that it could weigh the balance in favor of your rival.
It is NOT an illegal question, nor an unfair one. Your employer may not want to lose you, and if you give the ultimatum ( I get the better job or I'm out), you are just playing hardball.
(Something tells me the boss would appreciate that.)
