Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa
job duty and age discrimination
As the only female with a doctoral degree in secondary education administration in a school district as well as being the oldest female, my duties have been reassigned to include Activities Director in a high school. I have no training or experience in the required duties of that position. My expertise is in educational administration and school improvement. I've been told that my duties can be assigned any way the personnel director chooses. I believe I have been assigned these labor-intensive duties due to my age and gender. Is this legal? It is very obvious to a number of people that this is a vindictive move on my supervisors' part. I would be the only female in a young, male-dominate position. What can I do? I don't want to quit. Have I no legal recourse?

Re: job duty and age discrimination
Are you in a Union? Do you have a written employment contract or employee manual/handbook?
You may have rights with respect to retaliation or breach of contract.Age discrimination is difficult to prove without smoking gun evidence or a statistical pattern or practice.
