Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa

my mom was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer over a month ago. she was very concerned with her job and the possibility of losing it. Her boss kept telling her "don't worry about it, you're fine, take the time you need to rest and get better." so mom did what she could in between chemo treatments. just this past week, her boss told her that she had used up all of her vacation and sick days and told her that they were taking her salary away and putting her on hourly wage to pay her for the hours she's able to work. They are still maintaining her health insurance but cut her salary down to hourly wage. Is that legal to do? and is there anything that she can do legally to fight this?

Unfortunately we live in a right to work state which means you can be fired for any reason, good reason or no reason at all, unless you have a contract of employment. That includes changing your working conditions and benefits.
