Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa
I was recently let go from a job I held for over 2 years. When my employer let me go I simply got "Its just not going to work out" as the answer to why. He would not elaborate. I was never given any sort of warning, verbal or written. I later found out that he and one of my coworkers had been discussing how they might get rid of me for some time. This coworker was hired only a few months prior and was considered to be my equal. I have been trying to get unemployment insurance but I have now heard he is appealing it. My question is am I within my legal rights to go to his office and request any records he has in my personal file so I able to prepare myself for the fact finding hearing that the workforce development office will be conducting? I do not want to be surprised or caught off guard by him saying things that are not true.

You are entitled to a copy of your personnel file. I suggest you contact the human resources department of your former employer rather than your former supervisor.
