Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa
I am am a union mechanic in Iowa who was just written up for ""inattentavnss t o duties" for making an error that took an hour to fix. The engineer who assigned the project gave bad directions, though I shoud have asked for clarification. After having finished the job the first time, said engineer came and told me the piece I had put in was backwards and needed fixed and that I should have known better. When I told him I did not have much knowledge in this field he made a snide comment about " ...do you need to be sent to school?" then when I went into the maint. shop, he had a informational posting taped to the door to possibly help others, but felt like a jab. Same enginerr constantly makes large scale mistakes that take a lot of time and money to repair, but nothing is done because he is company, Is there any recourse? I keep having to clean up after this guy and have told managemnt, and now a write-up? Would this be retaliation? Any statutes I could quote in a grievance?

I suggest you contact your union steward and see if there is anything that can be done.
