Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa

My wife is a teacher, she has an early class that requires her to be in at 7:15am, her contract time is up at 3:15pm. Her school had to cancel a bunch of days due to weather, their solution was to extend the day of classes to 3:35. Other teachers' contract times are not effected by this, as that was specifically taken into account for the change. My wife is now required to stay daily past her contract time for over 3 months with no compensation or even being asked to do this. I was wondering if this was legal to change contract time without compensation or even adjusting it contractually which would require her approval. What are the consequences to the school if they do this?

If she's union or represented by a union she can file a grievance. On the other hand if she got paid for the snow days the school department would argue she's already been paid in advance for the time.
