Legal Question in Employment Law in Iowa
Ok this will be kinda long but i have always wondered so here you go..I am unemployed have been since August 2010. I worked for a convenience store was there just over 10 years. The company sold to another convenience store. I stayed for 3 months and then resigned. As I figured I had an unemployment hearing whice i lost to the new company. I was there for only 3 month from April to July. The benefits I would have got were from a period of Febuary 09 to March 10 which is before the new company took over. I was granted benefits from my old company because they sold out but the unemployment agency said that the decision of getting the benefits from my old company that I worked for for 10 years and the denied decision from the new company that i worked for for 3 month disqualified me from any benefits. I am just curious if this is even legal because the benefit time period was even before the new company took over. So I have not received any unemployment for the last 9 months. It totals about $13500.00 That i lost out on. I never appealed because I would never have one. I just don't understand why i was denied benefits from my old company since they sold out! Jobs are hard to find and my bills are piling up and I may have to see my house. 10 years at a company I guess don't mean anything anymore cause a new company after 3 months can screw you out benefits they never even had to pay! I am sure that nothing can be done but thought I would ask anyway. Thanks for your time.

You need to hire an attorney if you have not done so already to see if you can get unemployment. The time may have passed for you to pursue an appeal.
