Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa
Apartment problems.
I moved into an apartment last April and have had many problems. Ever since neighbors moved below me in July they constantly banged on their ceiling when we walked around. Then they slit both one of my tires and my boyfriends. I complained about it to the landlord, but he said they were going to live there til the end of November. I did not feel safe and stayed somewhere else because of this while still paying rent. I told the landlord I didn't feel safe, yet he didn't do anything. Another problem is that until today, I have not had heat this whole summer. Since moving back in at the beginning of December, I had called the landlord several times. It was never fixed. There is now a new landlord as of January 1 and he finally had someone come today to fix it. With all of these problems, me feeling unsafe and not having heat for a month, is there any way that I can get out of my lease or else sue the landlord or something?
