Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa
my husband and i moved into a townhome at the end of august. we have yet to sign a lease. the landlord does not return phone calls or fix things (he promised to have things fixed before we moved in that have yet to be worked on). we want to move out in november. he is saying we must sign a lease and then if we move out we have to find someone else to cover our lease, or pay for the remainder of our lease. do we have to sign anything?

If you don't have a lease, you don't have a lease and you're not bound by it.
I'd think real hard about signing a lease if the landlord is not willing to make needed repairs.
