Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa
Lease argreement
I recently held a lease agreement with an apartment complex and inteded on staying throughout the lease. However, within a few months of living there things in the complex began to become dangerous for my family. Although I called and made several complaints nothing was ever done about them. I decided to break lease to keep my family safe and now I am being asked to pay for breaking contract. Is there anything that I can do about this? Should I pay even though I left for legitimate reasons?

Re: Lease argreement
I would need to hear in detail the reasons for your departure before I could give you an opinion.
I have been a LL for 28 years, and there are few conditions which cannot be fixed or ameliorated.
Did you bring in City/County Health inspectors prior to abandoning the rental premises?
Do you have a written record of your complaints to the LL?
