Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa
Last month I forget to put my roommate's rent check into my account on time. I as had previously written the check and given it to our rental agency it slipped my mind. My checked bounced and was returned to me by the rental agency in the mail on the 8th. They had called me on the 3rd but I had not listened to their message. I paid the rent in cash on the 8th as they requested. They are now telling me that neither me, my roommate, or either of our parents (we are in college) are allowed to pay with a check and that they will only accept cash or money orders. As my bank is located in my hometown, this is somewhat of a large inconvenience and issue for me. Is this legal for them to demand that? Can they continue to do this for the rest of our rental agreement? (until Aug 2011)
