Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa
Question
I last month wrote my landlord two checks to cover my rent, one dated for the 13th and one for the 20th. she as the landlord knew what i was doing but instead cashed both of them on the 17th causing my checking account to overdraw. i called her a little mad about it and she said sorry, offered to give me the money back and told me to call her later, i did, but she ignored my calls for two days then called me back and told me pretty much that she wasnt going to give the money back. she costed me 335 dollars in overdraft fees. can i legally deduct this from my rent with all the documetation i have to support it? mind you this isnt the first time she has done this.

Re: Question
what your landlord did was an abuse of right. send him a demand letter wherein you require him to pay you back the overdraft charges you incurred or you may state that you will charge it to the rent.
