Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa
Removal of flowers planted by renter who is moving
We have been renting a house for 3 years. During that time I purchased, planted, and maintained several plants and flowers. We also put edging around and bought gravel to improve the look of the outside of the house. We will be moving out by March 1, and we would like to take the plants and flowers with us. We want to leave the edging and the rock, but it took a long time to choose the flowers, and I want to dig them up and take them with us. We are in Iowa in the middle of winter, and the ground will be frozen till at least April. I also have shephards hooks in the ground and the same situation. I know that they are mine, and I can get them, but I am concerned about the flowers and plants. The owner will be selling the house to a neighbor for a rental property, and she told me that she would like to keep my flowers. What does the law say pertaining to digging up flowers that I purchased and have maintained myself? Where would I find a copy of the law that I could read and show to them?
