Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa

I had rented an apt. it had cockroaches so the landloard move my family into an house, he said that he would fix up the house as we lived there ok so knowing that the water heater did not work well, every hour we had to go down stairs to start it, there is a big hole in the kitchen where you can see from the outside 2 the inside, stairs that needs to be fix where u step on it and u feel like going backwards, the sidedoor had a bolt lock on it so we could not use it. I have payed rent every month but not this month yet he just got done with the water heater since now he was rent money my apt before this cough on fire so red cross help me put up the deposit on this, so now he going to file pappers on me to move out and he will not fix the house up or give me my red cross back to move he all ready brook the last lease that we had by moving us into this house

i am not sure what to do... I do have three daughters that lived with me
