Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa
About a year ago, my father and I jointly purchased a home for my daughter and grandson, which is in my name. Unfortunately, we did not have a written contract; she verbally agreed to pay the set monthly payment and the utilities. She has not paid either for over nine months. I wanted to take legal action, but my father would not agree. He recently passed away and I sent her an eviction notice via certified mail. In researching tenant/landlord rights, I am unsure what my rights are--or if I have any!

You're stuck with the problem. I suggest that you contact an attorney. If there's no rental agreement your daughter is a tenant at will and you can evict her just as you would any other tenant.
