What are the legal consequences in altering a prescription prescribed by a doctor?

You haven't given enough information for me to answer your question. There are civil and criminal consequences to any illegal act. Who did the "altering"? What do you mean by "altering"? Was the act of altering the drug accidental or intentional? Was there malice in doing it, inattention to details or just stupidity? I need more information.
