Legal Question in Personal Injury in Iowa
I am trying to help my brother get his life on track he got into a car acciedent about 3 years ago, a car ran a yeild sign and my brother hit him and he then was sued by State Farm Insurance for $10,000, he was in jail at the time of the court date and since he missed his court date he was found guilty. Is there anything he can do to settle this a different way?

Contact State Farm, don't tell them where you brother is, where he's working or any details about his current life. Tell them you want to help your brother clean this up and that you are willing to pay a reasonable sum. Offer $1,500.00. Say that's all you have. My guess is that $1,500.00 is better than nothing. They will probably take it but make sure you get a Release for the entire amount. I'd strongly recommend you have a lawyer draw up the paper work or else negotiate the deal. A lawyer may even be able to get the job done for $500. You never know.
