Legal Question in Personal Injury in Iowa

Charged with disorderly conduct

My girlfriend and I went over to a friend's house that owed her $30, I waited in the car as she went to get the money. They would not give her the money and one guy slapped her as she was walking away. When she got back in the car she told me what had happend, so I got out of the car with a baseball bat (knowing that there were 3 guys over there) to talk to them. My intentions were not to get into a fight although I brought a bat with me for protection incase anything did happen. After we started talking one of the guys hit me several times, when I got up I grabbed the bat and swung it once at a guy coming towards me. I was then tackled and hit several more times by two of the guys. My girlfiend called 911 and we took off to meet the officer down the road. When all was said and done he charged us all with disorderly conduct and I now have a court date on October 29th. My question is, isn't that considered self defense if both my girlfiend and I were hit several times before I swung the bat? What do you think will happen when I go to court?

Re: Charged with disorderly conduct

You've been charged with a crime and it's a pending case so it's probably better if you speak directly with an attorney. Self defense is tricky so read up on it and speak with the lawyer who is defending you. Sorry but it's important that your confidentiality isn't compromised.
