Legal Question in Personal Injury in Iowa

false accusation

I was wrongly accused of stealing at a Goodwill store and 2 police officers came in to question me about it. It supposedly happened a week ago (I was not even in Goodwill last week nor the week before!). They wouldn't tell me what I supposedly stole nor would they tell me if the license plate number she called in matched my car. She could not even tell me what type of car I was driving and would hardly make eye contact. The police went through my purse and took down all of my personal information. I didn't take anything and they told me I could go. I wasn't in any trouble this time and I could not come back because they did not want me shopping there anymore. Do I have any recourse for the embarassment and humiliation this presented for me?

Re: false accusation

It is possible but I cannot give you an estimate as to your chance of success. Please contact a personal injury lawyer who handles false arrest or police harassment cases. Unfortunately, I do not handle those types of cases. An attorney who does handle those types of cases can give you an estimate as to your chances of success. Most personal injury attorneys give free consultations. Good luck.
