Legal Question in Personal Injury in Iowa
Lady was stopped at stop sign waiting to turn right onto highway, she started creeping forward (past the stop line) the nearest lane was open to go until a car made a lane change into the nearest lane which then she braked. When she started creeping forward I looked left to make sure it was clear and let my foot slowly off the brake and before even moving it to the accelerator I bumped into her at probably 5 mph. We both looked at it and saw nothing wrong with it but she took my information "just in case her bumper fell off she said" (she wasn't very friendly). I gave it to her not thinking much of it since I saw nothing wrong with the car either. Well once she got home she called and said her bumper was pushed up in a certain spot. I went over and looked at it and the plastic was raised up a little right below the license plate. She got the estimate and said I owe her $620 for them to use a heat lamp on it to fix it, then later called back and said I owe $720 cause she's going to get a new bumper now. I'm in college and can't afford to pay $720 for this minor push up in the bumper that she probably wont even get fixed. What should I say or do? Can I offer to pay for half since I feel as though she is partially at fault?
