Legal Question in Personal Injury in Iowa
on monday me and my cousin took my boyfriends car to the dmv to get my i.d. / permit she doesnt have a licence right now but she did before. everything was going fine but as she was driving a car in front of us stopped to make a turn so my cousin started slowing down and kind of made a sudden stop and the car behind us i guess (even though it looked like they had enough time) didnt have enough time to slow down and stop ended up crashing into us and we obviously crashed into the car in front of us. Now my boyfriend is mad and says he wants to say that he never gave us permision. what is the worst that can happen to us and will the insurance cover the car?

Determining fault in a car accident is mostly about who did something wrong. Your cousin does not appear to be at fault. The car behind was following too close, was driving too fast for the conditions and was not driving with due care, because the driver wasn't paying enough attention to realize traffic was slowing. He probably wasn't paying attention and was distracted. The insurance for the car to the rear will be the one that covers the damages. If they refuse then see a lawyer. As for your boyfriend wanting to lie, lying is never a good idea.
