Legal Question in Personal Injury in Iowa
Property damage at someone else's house
A friend of mine was over at my house and left her asthma inhaler on a coffee table in our upstairs living room. The family dog got a hold of it and punctured the inhaler. My friend claims that because the incident happened in my house that I should be liable, even though she neglected to take proper care of her inhaler. She does not have health insurance at the moment and inhalers are $142. Am I liable or is my friend off base?

Re: Property damage at someone else's house
You are liable, theoretically, if you were negligent. Was it negligent of you to allow your dog to get the inhaler? I do not think so. I think it was more negligent of the friend to leave her inhaler on a coffee table where a dog could get it. I hope that I have helped.
