Sleepwalking

My husband stated that he heard that a person is not held accountable for anything he does 15 minutes after he/she wakes up?

Re: Sleepwalking

I feel compelled to answer this question. I too tell my wife that whatever I do for 15 minutes after waking up and at least ten minutes after I drink my first cup of coffee she can't hold against me. She never believes me. Seriously, I've never heard of such a law in Iowa or for any other state for that matter. If that person has a sleep disorder that they are aware of and ignore it then a question arises as to whether or not they are being reasonable in not getting treatment and if they fail to get treatment then are they being negligent? Certainly a person would not be allowed to punch someone within the first 15 minutes after waking up and not being charged with assaultive behavior. This is a very curious question and you should see an attorney if you are in danger.
