If a Sublet causes damage to a neighbor's property, who can be held responsible for the damages?

The sublease tenant, the landlord and the person doing the subleasing would be on the hook. Since most sublets are informal because they're not approved by the landlord I'd think that the sublease tenant and the tenant of record would be on the hook.
