2. The landlord or the tenant may terminate a month-to-month tenancy by a written notice given to the other at least thirty days prior to the periodic rental date specified in the notice.
what does this mean in layment terms? if rent is due on the 1st each month. and notice is served on sept. 3rd then you have to be out by oct 31st correct?

That's assuming that the rental agreement is not being terminated for cause.
