Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa
We bought a farm from my mother-in-law on contract. We have been paying every month faithfully. We pay the taxes and the contract was drawn up by a lawyer and was signed by both parties. If she has a stroke or for some reason needs to go to the nursing home, can they take our farm to pay for her medical bills?

I think you're asking about the effect of medicaid, and I believe there is a five year lookback concerning divestiture of assets in advance of a catastrophic illness.
Best to consult a specialist in the field, particularly if that was the reason the transaction took place. If it is a sham transaction-in other words, a sale in name only-expect trouble.
