Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa

Looking into buying a For Sale By Owner house

We are looking into making an offer and possibly buying a For Sale By Owner house without a buyer's agent. What is the process for this? Should I just find a lawyer and they will help me make an offer? Also, about how much should that cost? Thanks!

I suppose it sounds a bit self-serving to say you need an attorney, but, you need an attorney. This is one of the biggest financial transactions of your life, and it's important to have someone on you side. And unless you make arrangements in advance, "the bank's attorney" does not represent you. An experienced real estate attorney can help you prepare a purchase agreement which protects your interests, can tell you what problems can arise and how to prevent them, what inspections can be important, and even help you find an appropriate source of financing. The lender with the biggest advertising budget is not necessarily best for you. If you are in the Quad City area, we would be happy to assist you. In any event, best of luck with your purchase.
