Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa
I have a condo that I am renting out and will be putting it on the market while the renters are there. I want to have open houses and was wondering if the renters are obligated to clean the condo and can I as an owner go in and do as I see fit to prepare for an open house.
Thanks, Julie

What does the lease say? If it does not say you can clean for an open house, you cannot. Even if it did, I would not suggest it, since I would think it would open you up to liability if you damaged any of their personal property. Also, keep in mind that you can only sell the property subject to the lease. So, if there are seven months left on the lease, the buyer of the property has to honor that lease for the remaining seven month term. If the lease is month to month, you might consider terminating before you try to sell the property. I would highly recommend immediately contacting an attorney in your area to assist you, both with the lease situation and the sale.
