Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa

Hi there, I am on my way to becoming a landlord here in Iowa, as I approach the Closing date (2 weeks from now) on my first investment property, a multi-family home comprised of four units. I must findout, as a lifetime parolee, on the sex offender registry for my first crime (non-violent)-am I allowed to rent to families that have minors while I reside in one of the units by myself? If not, if I don't reside in the building, then can I rent to them since I won't be living there? What exactly are the rules about that?

Just trying to redeem myself and make my family proud of me once again, while trying to rebuild my credit and reputation that I've lost through the ordeal that started about 9 years ago in my college days.

 Please answer and thank you.

I would suggest that you hire a real estate attorney to represent you in this transaction. Your attorney can also help you with the questions you have here, assistance with your lease agreements, and other advice and information as you embark on your new business.
