Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa
Hello. I lived with my finace for 4 years but we never married and had no children. We bought a house in both our names in joint tenancy and with both names on the mortgage 10 years ago. He has still not refinanced it. Can he force me to sign a quit claim deed? What are my rights in this situation? We live in Iowa. Thanks for your help.

He cannot simply force you to sign a quit claim deed (or any other kind of deed) anymore than you can force him. You are both owners. If you cannot resolve this between the two of you, you might need to consider a partition action. This essentially means the property would be sold and the proceeds divided fairly between the two of you. You should discuss your situation with a real estate attorney for guidance and advice.
