Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa
My roommate Kristi decided to ask her friend to move into our spare bedroom in our home. I don't know this friend that she asked to move in, nor have I ever talked to the person. Her friend brought her futon and tv to put in the storage room until she was ready to move in. She brought this stuff back in October of 2009. Her friend decided that she didn't want to move in anymore but didn't come back to get her stuff. Kristi began using the tv and futon. Kristi decided to move out a couple months ago. She took all of her belongings but put the futon and tv back into the storage room. I will be moving out of the house in less than a month. I asked Kristi about the futon and tv but she said she hasn't talked to her friend in ages and doesn't want anything to do with the futon or tv. Because I am moving out, I need everything out of the house. Am I allowed to take the futon and tv and sell them, as I don't need them either? It has been over a year and a half since the items were put in my house and Kristi has not been contacted from the friend in regards to her items at all. Thanks for the help!

They're not your property but they were abandoned. Let the roommate know and then just put them out at the curb.
