Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa

Selling a house

My father recently passed on and before he did he ''sold'' his house to someone in the family. We looked at county records and it has indicated that the house was never sold however it is in the cousins name. How else can this be? I know that money changed hands and everything. how else can the house be in her name if the county records don't show a record of a sale???

Re: Selling a house

Not sure what you mean by "never sold however it is in the cousins name." If your father was in title to the property, and he conveyed his interest by a properly prepared deed to the cousin, then the property is owned by the cousin.
