Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa

We signed a real estate contract to sell our property yesterday and 5 hours later decided not to sell. We called our realtor immediately and told him to call the buyer and tell him. He said the buyer had not signed it yet and he said no problem. The buyer then signed it 1 1/2 hours later and texted a copy of the signature page to our realtor. He now wants us to go thru with the sale. Is this legal?

It is not clear to me if you signed a listing agreement with the real estate agent, or if you signed a purchase agreement. While it would be unusual for a seller to sign a purchase agreement first, I have seen it happen. In any event, it is time to hire a real estate attorney to represent you. And not the one the real estate agent was going to "hire" to prepare the deed for you. You need someone who represents and answers only to you.

Hire an attorney pronto. That attorney will need the facts and copies of everything you have.
