Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa

thirty day notice to vacate

If i gave a 30 day notice to vacate on oct. 12 does the landlord have the right to not begin the 30 day notice until Nov 1? We had a 1 year lease when we first moved in, since we have paid month to month. Rent is due on the first of the month. There is no other written agreement, besides the first year lease. we have been here 2 years. Lease reads ''Tenants to give thirty (30) days WRITTEN NOTICE(REQUIRED) WHEN TENANT IS LEAVING AT THE END OF A LEASE PERIOD. OR WHEN TENANT IS TERMINATING A MONTH TO MONTH TENANCY.''

Re: thirty day notice to vacate

Yes your landlord is correct. By the same token, your landlord could give YOU 30 days notice to vacate, and you would have the same amount of time.
