Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa

Possible violation of lease agreement

I signed a lease agreement while the house was for sale. My landlord guaranteed that he would refund our money and find us another place to live, if he sold the house through the realtor within 5 months. But he sold the house after 8 months, and on his own. But he had promised us that the house was off the market in Dec. (the 5 month mark). He said that he wouldn't let anyone move in until our lease agreement was up this August. We signed a lease agreement for one year, but he sold the house and we have to move out after 8 months. Is there any monetary refund we can legally get back from him besides our deposit?

Re: Possible violation of lease agreement

Much to your landlord's chagrin, when he sells the house, he sells it subject to any tenants rights. In other words, anyone who purchases the property, purchases it subject to your lease agreement with the landlord. This lease agreement is in writing, isn't it?
