Legal donations
I'm an independent contractor - massage therapist. If I donate a gift certificate to a charitable organization (say The American Cancer Society) can I write this off as a charitable deduction for what I would normally charge for the gift certificate?

You can write off the actual cost of the gift, i.e. materials used, but not what you would normally charge as you have not recognized any income.
