Legal Question in Traffic Law in Iowa

What to expect?

I was in an accident that was my fault. Damge was enough that police should have been called. They were not, and both parties left the scene. The other party called the police a short while later. I had a few drinks at lunch, just before the accident.

Later that evening, an officer showed up to serve me a traffic ticket for ''following too close'', and warned me that the police should have been called, and that I fortunate no one was hurt. He ordered on the ticket a mandatory court date.

My question is, what can I expect at the hearing? Can I get out of the ticket? Or should I just be thankful and pay it? What will the judge do or say to me? (The officer knew from the other party that I had been drinking)

Thank you for any help.

Re: What to expect?

I'd pay the ticket, myself. You're lucky you didn't get charged with DUI.
