Legal Question in Traffic Law in Iowa
Officer waits 2 weeks to issue ticket after I dont buy him drugs
I was pulled over for a light out and I had a revoked license. Officer told me he would not ticket me, but in return I had to provide him any info I hear of about drugs in the area. A week later he comes to my house and asks for info and I had none. He then said he would like me to make a buy for him and I told him I would not do that. A week later a get an affidavit in the mail telling me he is charging me for driving with no license. 15 days after the fact, I assume due to the fact that I would not find him drugs. I believe he knows I had a substance abuse problem in the past and thoought I had some ''contact'' to bring down. That was a long time ago and I want nothing to do with it, so I feel the ticket is retaliation. Can he legally give me a ticket now after so much time has passed? Is there anything I can do to fight this?

I think that all the court will be interested is whether you were driving while revoked. It really doesn't matter about the other stuff and I don't see how you could prove any of it absent witnesses. ?
