Legal Question in Traffic Law in Iowa
I recently received a ticket for traveling the wrong way down a one way street. I was driving a vehicle that was not mine and was informed that the speedometer was not working. I turned onto the closest street which happened to be a one way street. Once this was realized I turned off at the nearest safe place. Do I have a valid argument due to the condition of the vehicle. It was 1:20 a.m. and there were no cars present on the road besides the officer that pulled me over. Also, the police officers tried to charge me for Operating While Intoxicated, but after extensive field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer test it was determined that I was not under the influence of anything. I was cited for the traffic violation and forced to walk back 4 blocks to my dorm room in freezing temperatures wearing only shorts and a long sleeve T-shirt. I was told someone had to come pick up the car or it would be impounded. If I was determined to have not been under any influence of anything, why was I not allowed to drive the vehicle back?

Why do you think you have a valid argument? You were driving the wrong way down a one way street. I don't know the answer to the other question except to say that I'd take a four block walk over a DUI any day of the week.
