Legal Question in Traffic Law in Iowa
Time on ticket
I just got a speeding ticket. The court date on the ticket says 2/7/07 9:00 P.M. I don't know without a doubt, but I'd be willing to bet that the court isn't open at 9:00 P.M. Can I use that as a way to get out of it? If I show up at the courthouse and nobody is there do I have a reasonable excuse to get out of the fine? And if it is open at 9:00 P.M. I guess I'd just have to pay the fine because there is no other defense...

Re: Time on ticket
There's likely a mistake on the paperwork or how you read it. What you are proposing is a good way to spend a night in jail because if you do not show at the correct time the court will issue a warrant for your arrest. You got caught, pay your fine and move on with your life.
