Legal Question in Traffic Law in Iowa
underglow kits
i would like to know if it is illegal to have a blue illumintaion kit under your car. i was parked one night and the cop told me that it was illegal, but cops here have a history of harassing people. i just wanted to ask soeone who was not going to screw me on the law. i went to the courthouse and asked them if i could see the law, and they said look it up on the internet. i did so and could not find anything that said i could not have it. but i want somthing to print out that says that i can have it because that is what they asked for. thank you very much.

Re: underglow kits
Yes, under Iowa Code section 321.423(3)it is illegal to have blue lights on a motor vehicle in Iowa unless the vehicle is owned by a fire department or is an authorized emergency vehicle.
The chapter is titled "flashing lights" so it could be argued that this is exclusively what it is about but my reading of the section unfortunately seems to support the law enforcement side.
