Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Iowa

My half brother was researching trying to find his elderly father that abandoned him and mom when he was a baby. He never had further contact or paid child support and never knew where he lived but just found out he died in Iowa a few years ago. If he had an estate, should my brother have been notified as an heir even if there was a remarriage with subsequent children?

You haven't said whether your brother's father died intestate or not. Either way there's no requirement that I know of that mandates notification. Typically the attorney for the estate posts a notice in the local legal newspaper giving all persons with a potential claim against the estate a set time to come forward. I suspect that time has passed.
