Dear Sir/ or Madam:
Transnational crimes must be differentiated from international crimes.
Transnational crimes such as drug trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, piracy, arms smuggling and trafficking in persons, can be defined as crimes whose inception, prevention and effects involves more than one country.
Transnational crimes must involve the crossing of borders or jurisdictions.
International crimes are recognized by and can therefore be prosecuted under international law.
The problem of transnational crimes requires international cooperation and cannot be effectively address by individual governments. In other words, the fight against transnational crimes could be achieved by international or inter-state cooperation resulting in criminalizing the transnational crimes.
If a transnational crime is recognized by international law; in that case, the transnational crime could be called an international crime as well.
