To be able to give a definite advice, you should be more accurate aboute the exact structure of your family; for example: did your grandmother leave relatives only in the USA? Or also in Italy? Where did she live? And where did she died? Do you know if she left a will?

Dear Madam/Sir
Basically you need to open a succesion procedure, first collecting all the assets in details, than opening the will (if available) and finally to fill up several forms and file them to proper authorities.
Our advice is to appoint an Italian law firm to deal with the burocracy issues, some like us, offer a Contingency fee retainer.
