My ex is fighting for sole custody of our son. I was served with the papers and was suppose to have my plea in by Jan. 18. The lawyer I hired was paid on Jan. 15. He said I needed to rush him the money so he could get everything together immediately. Now he still has done nothing, he never filied my plea, and has never even contacted my ex's lawyer. What can I do?

You should send a written request for a refund of your money and return of your file. You should retain new counsel immediately to request permission to file a response out of time (if a responsive pleading was required), so that your legal rights are protected. There are other options that you could pursue which can be discussed in greater detail if you call my office.
