Your question is a bit confusing. You may not file fur bankruptcy protection regarding just one civil case. But, when you file your Bankruptcy petition, it will halt all civil cases against you. The stop may only be temporary if the plaintiff can convince the bankruptcy judge to allow them to go forward with their suit, such as with a foreclosure.
You need to consult directly with a civil defense or bankruptcy attorney in your area, in order to get advice as to the specific facts of your particular situation.
Good luck
