Legal Question in Business Law in Kansas

If I want to have a class in someone's home teaching them how to do something like laying tile or using power tools, will having them sign a release assuming responsibility keep me from being liable for injury or damage, or do I need some kind of insurance?

You should carry at least general business liability insurance. Call your insurance agent to discuss your options. If you don't have an insurance agent, any of the big insurance companies can help you out.

You do indeed also need a release from your students and from the homeowner, since they will be using dangerous implements and can do some pretty serious damage to the home and themselves with those implements. HAVE YOUR LAWYER DRAW IT UP; with the potential amounts of money involved in this, drafting these releases is NOT a self-help exercise.
