Legal Question in Business Law in Kansas
I am looking to purchase a retail/food establishment. Right now I am working on creating an LLC that will own the store, but not sure which state to register it in. The retail store would be in Missouri and I live in Kansas. Does it matter which state I do it in?

You can create your LLC in either MO or KS. Both states require the LLC to have a resident agent in said state. So if you create your LLC in MO, you can have an agent registered to the store, if said agent is available during regular working hours. If you create your LLC in KS, you may be the registered agent.
In your circumstance, I suggest clients consult with their CPA as to which setup will garner the client the best tax immunity.
